30 Recovery Slogans to Use as Daily Reminders

If you know one thing about addiction recovery, it’s probably “one day at a time.” This slogan is synonymous with the program. However it’s not the only slogan those in recovery have been known to embrace. 

Recovery is a chronic disease and an ongoing process. Sayings, mantras and short insightful statements are words to live by to help remember what’s important. There are many mottos for each individual to apply to any situation. Identifying your favorite slogans can be a very effective method to aid in your recovery.

So here’s a list of 30 slogans. Pick some. Print them. Repost them. Pin some. Keep them where you’ll see them. On post-its. On your phone. In your wallet. On your mirror. In your car. Put them everywhere. Repeat them often. They are all great words to live by… 

  1. A smooth sea never made a good sailor
  2. Progress, not perfection
  3. Keep it simple
  4. Nothing is so bad a drink won’t make it worse
  5. When in doubt – don’t
  6. Small steps forward are still steps
  7. Recovery doesn’t happen overnight
  8. Have an attitude of gratitude
  9. Easy does it
  10. First things first
  11. Misery is optional
  12. Principles before personalities
  13. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired
  14. You only get out what you put into it
  15. Help is only a phone call away
  16. Nothing changes if nothing changes
  17. Experience, strength and hope not opinions, bullshit and dope
  18. One drink is too many and a thousand not enough
  19. Mistakes are proof that you’re trying
  20. There’s no progress without struggle
  21. A scar is a reminder that you’re stronger than whatever hurt you
  22. Never let a stumble in the road be the end of the Journey
  23. Your struggle is part of your story
  24. The Happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts
  25. Whenever you feel like giving up, think of all the people who would love to see you fail
  26. If Plan A didn’t work, the alphabet has 25 more letters
  27. Take what you need and leave the rest
  28. Don’t quit before the miracle happens
  29. Growing old is mandatory – Growing up is optional
  30. Keep coming back- it works if you work it
