What does 420 mean?

Before recreational cannabis was legalized in San Rafael, California, a group of pot smoker called the Waldos, use this term as code. They used to meet on the campus of San Rafael High School’s campus by the statue of Louis Pasteur at 4:20pm to get high. This caught on and has becomes socially acceptable phrase for the hour of day to consume cannabis. The date 4/20 or April 20th is celebrated by enthusiasts each year. 420-friendly is also used to denote place and people who are not opposed to cannabis use. The term is said to have been made popular by The Grateful Dead community.
